Zoran Zivkovic is the author of "The Book/The Writer, The Devil in Brisbane, The Fourth Circle, Hidden Camera," and "Seven Touches of Music," He is the recipient of the World Fantasy and the Milos Crnjanski Awards, was a two-time finalist for the International Dublin Literary and the Yugoslavian NIN Awards, and has been named a Guest of Honor for EuroCon 2007. His work has been published in 17 countries, broadcast on BBC radio, produced for television, and optioned for film.

Witty and fresh fantasy

It's been a long time since I could not lay down a book because I was too intrigued by what is coming next; "The Library" is such a book.
Though references to Borges and others are quite clear, I would not pretend Zivkovic it anything like Borges, without meaning any disrespect to either author. Zivkovic writting is obsessed and obsessive, quite witty and fun. It is easy to approach and fantasy elements are just laid the right way to draw you in and intrigue you, without giving away anything.
I'm definetley looking to read some more.

Beautifully written fantasy stories.

I didn't know such fiction still being written. No car chases, gunplay, martial arts, violence, sex, drugs or rock and roll. What a gratifying diversion! As a non-intellectual, I like fine, straightforward prose that doesn't require the reader to constantly pause or backtrack to ponder various vague or obscure meanings. The author keeps these stories flowing smoothly from start to finish.
The six stories will be more entertaining for those who deeply care about books but it is by no means essential. This was my first exposure to Zivkovic's work and I have ordered several more of his books from among the 18 listed at the back of THE LIBRARY.

Highly recommended novella.

This is a bibliophile's wet dream of linked short stories about books and nothing else but books and the people they find. Each story builds one from the next with the first being one of the simplest short stories I've ever read to the last which is one of the most meta-stories you're likely to find. No wonder this one Zivkovic the World Fantasy Award a few years back.
