Buy this book and give it to your pastor and sit on him or her until it is read!

I have been a pastor for years and have struggled with these issues, why do people leave a church. Is it me? What did I say? What did I do? What or who did what to who and what and so forth. And this puzzling question that so many claim to have an answer to and in fact do not: How do you grow a church? I saw churches grow when they should not have. I seen churches flourish when they should not have and I scratch and scratch my head wondering what is up with this? Now there is not only an answer to these questions that is real and valuable, there are answers on how I can improve myself, my church and grow a church for God's glory. This book is not just musings and theories, it is real researched and practical help. It is biblical! I am amazed on the countless in context scripture references most in the index. The 44 factors that cause a church to grow is a gold mind and worth thousands of dollars. In fact I paid thousands of dollars for a consultant and did not get a fraction of the practical help krejcir has in his book. The New Exodus is a must read for any Christian wants to improve their church and an essential book on the desk of any pastor wanting to grow a church closer to Christ and be an impact in His Kingdom. We need this information for our church. There is a problem with the faith of our people. They are losing interest in things pertaining to God. Our new Pastor is not trying to listen to God, he is convinced "he" has a vision that will grow our congregation. However, it is God's Church, He will grow the congregation. We must be willing. I am searching for what I am doing wrong and hindering the process God has already developed. God Help Us to Keep America close to God.

I feel like I've known Rick for decades

After reading Whistle in a Haystack, I feel like I've known Rick for decades. I've never met him but the book is written in a way that emphasizes life lessons that anyone can benefit from. I'm not an avid sports fan, and I particularly don't follow basketball but I do follow Dave Simon's blog and I wanted to read what he's been working on. My favorite part of the book is the "Lessons" section at the end of each chapter. The three or four key points worth remembering emphasize the wisdom that Rick shares from his career. You'll feel like you're on the court with Rick as his story unfolds and each chapter entices you towards the end of the final quarter.

Excellent read, especially during this time of year

Excellent read, especially during this time of year. With March Madness if full force all around us, Rick gives his readers a behind the scenes look of one of the greatest sporting events of the year. I enjoyed reading about his numerous interactions with coaches, players and other officials. The life lessons he teaches in this book have an Iowa feel and can be applied to anyone's life. I would highly recommend this book to any sports fan out there!

Lessons from Refereeing Basketball

The lessons at the end of each chapter can get repetitive. Good stories, very positive, but I'd like to see some more of the "bad guy" side of some of the coaches/referees. Lessons are valid for anyone, and apply to many different situations. Rick's story-telling is interesting and adequately illustrates his life lessons at the end of each chapter.
