"The Comedy Bible" amazingly accurate about everything in comedy & humor

"The Comedy Bible" by Brian McKim & Traci Skene accurately and briefly describes The Creative Process, the emotions that comedic artists go through and the business aspects in a brief and accurate way. Page 131 Red Skelton's Freddie the Freeloader was only SOMETIMES a silent clown; he did verbal jokes in MOST of his sketches. I think there's one other error in the book and it's just as trivial. Great book for a comedian to give their parents and great to give a just-starting-out or working-up-the-nerve-for-their-first-set beginners. My favorite part was Page 99 Ajaye quote, quoting other comics. It was an adventure hunting for errors in this book and finding none. (Twice I had a false alarm: So-called "one-liners" are sometimes 2 or 3 sentences. I reread it and they had said "usually" so they're not wrong.)

Utter garbage - how to write a scam book

Anybody could write a book like this and, contrary to the title - it will not help the aspiring comedian in the slightest. Please - if you are considering a career in comedy - spend your money on Judy Carter's bible - a robust and legitimate piece of work. ....unless of course you need to read drivel like: "Punch Line: Position this at the end of your joke."

This is probably the worst book I have ever purchased. The (cruel) joke is on me! and anyone else foolish enough to purchase this so-called book.

The positive reviewers for this title neglect to mention that the "Contacts and Questions" section (that is, the really useful part) is very brief. And I have to mention the truly horrible illustrations and confusing layout. Not recommended.

What I was looking for

A little background. I am taking an inverse problem graduate level course, which makes use of Gelfand-Levitan equations, Marchenko equations, etc. I had never studied integral equations, and I was looking to get an intuitive understanding of how to solve and approach the G-L and Marchenko equations. One of the main problems I was having was understanding the notation of the G-L equations. This book gave me a lot of the basics that I was missing in how to solve Fredholm and Volterra equations and also where some of the more advanced theory came from. So, I would recommend this book as a great introduction to integral equations, as the name suggests.

For a more theoretical approach, I would first go through Abdul Jerri's book on integral equations, and then, if you want to learn some applications or more theory, I would recommend books by Chadan, Sabatier, Marchenko, etc.

A really wonderful book !

This was almost my first book which I had read about integral equations. The real advantage of it is that this book is not an abstract one, but really teaches you several practical equation solving methods and contains lots of examples and exercises with the answers provided at the end of the book. Simply great !

McDougall was a newspaperman from Salt Lake City who quit his job and went to work for the Japan Times, an English-language newspaper in Tokyo, and later for the United Press, for which he covered the Japanese occupation of Shanghai and the fall of the Dutch East Indies (Indonesia). When the ship on which he had escaped from Java was sunk, he reached the island of Sumatra, where he was captured and imprisoned by the Japanese until 1945.
McDougall’s letters to his family offer a rare and detailed look at daily life in Tokyo and in Japanese-occupied Shanghai during the months leading up to the Pearl Harbor attack. After his imprisonment in Sumatra, he began keeping a daily journal of his experiences as a POW. Published here for the first time are the journals he retrieved at the end of World War II.
Written by an articulate and perceptive professional reporter, McDougall's letters and diaries offer an intimate, personal narrative of conditions in wartime East Asia.�

About the Author
William H. McDougall Jr. (1909-1988) published two books about his wartime experiences: Six Bells Off Java and By Eastern Windows. He entered the Roman Catholic priesthood after the war. McDougall was rector of the Cathedral of the Madeleine in Salt Lake City until his retirement in 1981.
Gary Topping is professor of history at Salt Lake Community College and archivist of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Salt Lake City. He is the author of Utah Historians and the Reconstruction of Western History.

Excellent Introductory Book

I purchased this textbook for background use in a graduate level high temperature corrosion class. The book does pretty good job of explaining corrosion phenomena with lots of pictures and discrete steps. I found it very helpful for learning the basics of an unfamiliar topic. I learn by example, and I think this book could use more numerical examples with concrete equations.

I would recommend pairing it with David Young's "High Temperature Oxidation and Corrosion of Metals" for an awesome book combination to well learn about high temperature oxidation and corrosion reactions.
