Perfect inspirational graduation present

Perfect inspirational graduation present, that I found myself wanting to keep. Just great life advice, pieces of wisdom, and moral lessons from some of the most wonderful modern thinkers like Howard Zinn & Noam Chomsky. This is especially great for the more left-minded crowd, as it features several key liberal figures. But there speeches are quite universal anyways, even if you're not a sharer of their particular political views. (I got it as a liberal, for my conservative niece who liked it just as well. The speeches have great range for all political view points, don't let who the contributors are fool you on that.)

You think you know the Warhammer 40,000 universe?Think again

This giant, over sized book is a comprehensive account of the first twenty years of The Sabbat Worlds Crusade. The Imperial Guard, Space Marines, and Navy fight crushing battles against the dread menace of Chaos. This is detailed/narrated by Antonid Biota, a senior tactician on the front line, assigned to the staff of Lord General Van Voytz. Biota has been in the thick of the combat right from the beginning and is able to tell it like it is.

Illustrations abound within the covers and you will find many maps and notes. There are even copies of the Casualty Listings. Pictures, not just illustrations, show the details of the hardware and weapons used by the brave souls that hold Chaos at bay. Confidential orders are spread out for you to read. There are even detailed spreadsheets showing the layers within the Hive cites, such as Sangrel Hive (page 16). Troopers, majors, captains, ranks of all types tell about the battles they faced and the horrors they witnessed. By the end you will feel as though you were there yourself.

All the plans and politics are laid bare for all to see, such as a chart detail showing Cybon's proposed rimward expedition, circa 463, and the trailing zones of the Cabal Systems, showing the border worlds assaulted during Macaroth's initial phase in 770-771 (page 68). The Blood Pact is thoroughly explained, squadron badges are shown, and you even get to see, up close, the ships flown. (The Navy Thunderbolt, Cypra-Mundi Pattern XXI, of the One Hundred and First Pacificus Navy Elite Wing, the 'Apostles' Plane, serial 4548456, flown by Major Dario Quint, "Ace of Aces", is shown on page 82).

1. This is a great book to get more tricks and knowledge for the quantitative part of the GRE. It has hundreds of exercises of several types, it is well-written and reviews in detail every subject tested in quantitative GRE. Finally, it has a good, thorough diagnosis test. In summary, if you have a book for general preparation (like the ones sold by Kaplan) and you really need to have a high quantitative score (for those who want to attend courses like computer sciences, physics or economics), this one will be a great complement! --Guilherme Oliveira

2. I have to say that I love this book. I took a Princeton Review GRE class. I started off with a 610 on the math section. When I was finished with the class, I was getting about 650 on the practice tests. I have been working through the GRE Math Prep Course to get a more rigorous treatment of the problems. I took the Powerprep test today and got a 750. The Nova book does things at a much deeper level than the other stuff I have looked at. --A Student

3. At first I tried the Kaplan, Barron's and Princeton Review books, but this by far is the best book if you want to do well. You will probably need to buy Barron's GRE exam book to get basic review of math or the Kaplan GRE exam workbook if you are a little rusty. But after reviewing these books, definitely get this one. I have gone over this book for the past four weeks and my math skills have dramatically improved. The other brands may get you to an average score but this book will definitely get you scoring highly (700+). I took a practice test last week and did very poorly and in just a week of intense review of this book (timing myself rather than just going through the book slowly to understand the concepts) my score has gone up by 100 points! I hope to keep improving since I have yet to master every concept in this book, but I believe that with each concept I master my score will definitely improve. --greyay

Extensive Math Review But Missing Some Key Points

I bought this book as one of my final purchases for my GRE prep. It had been very highly rated and I needed a more intensive math review after purchasing GRE for Dummies, Cracking the GRE by Princeton and the Barrons 800 High Frequency Word List. The fact that the book separates the question levels of difficult is one of the better aspects of the book. The sheer number of questions to practice with is also very helpful.

However, there are still numerous flaws that left me unsatisfied. I found the reviews of many concepts to be lackluster at best, giving questions in the medium or hard sections with no preemptive preparation in the review part of the section. Also, I found numerous questions to be tediously full of problems that need more time to work on than should be necessary for a GRE question. Also, I found the types of questions themselves, while helpful to concept practice, not at all written in the same manner as the GRE questions you can typically find in the PowerPrep or in a Princeton book.

The math section on the GRE is all about tricks, traps and simple ways to solve problems. Many solutions offered in the answer sections provide complex if not completely unnecessary solutions - adding extra variables where no variable really need be added, for example. They show complex ways of solving QC problems with a D answer that need only basic logic to prove as a D.

Lastly, I feel a math book for the GRE should be teaching you how to do the least amount of math in your 45 minutes and how to immediately spot a trap. This book only minimally mentions traps and tips to find them.

So unhappy with this purchase! Complete waste of money. Much harder than any other GRE book I've purchased and I do not feel it gives close to adequate explanations. Avoid!

Great book for the problems

This book had the best review problems of all the GRE Math books I tried, including REA and Kaplan. It will not give you step-by-step instructions for the problem solving, so you do have to do some of the work on your own to understand the solutions, but I think that only helps as long as you can take the time to go through them.

I took the GRE's last month and did great on the quantitative section. Compared to this book, the GRE math section actually seemed easy. I would recommend this to anyone who already has math knowledge, but hasn't done these types of calculations in years. It had been over 5 years since my last college course, and this book got me back up and running. Took me about 2 months to completely go through all of the problems and understand the solutions. Good luck!

Not the best in terms of ease of use

I have viewed many different clinical skills and assessment guides and I just personally think this one is set up so oddly. It is supposed to be a handbook for ease of access but I don't find it to be a quick reference guide. However, the information is excellent and complete. I wish I had bought the actual textbook version instead of the handbook version (which was recommended by my school so it could be brought easily to lab or clinical) because I don't find it "handy" at all. More of a sit down and read type of book in smaller format. I actually rarely use it now and tend to just google or reference note cards for the quick information I need. On a positive not, it is not information this handbook lacks. I am simply not a fan of the pictures and charts interrupting the flow of the explained assessment techniques. Perhaps it would have been better to have put the comparison charts or pictures at the end of each chapter after the assessment data has been explained. I say this because the book is supposed to be smaller and more condensed than a textbook. If you are using it as a review and already know what, say, retinal hemorrhages and cotton wool patches in the eye look like, you don't want a whole page of pictures interrupting the flow of your assessment explanation. But overall great book with well explained "normal" and "deviations from normal" data to look for in your assessment and how that can vary among pediatric and geriatric clients.

Very good, dense introduction

Very dense, example-heavy book that covers many aspects of Spring. I learned a ton in a relatively short period of time. I came across few if any errors. The biggest quibble might be the English-as-a-Second-Language problem, but it wasn't bad; at no point was I unable to untangle what the author meant.

Very Pleased

The preamble: the machine I learned to code on now sits in the Smithsonian! Seriously. I've been doing this awhile and I have to re-invent myself twice a decade or so to remain marketable in the field. I've been doing .NET/C# since the early 2000's but have been given orders to port to JAVA / Spring-MVC. OK. I purchased another book that lasted about 5 chapters as it was tediously boring and riddled with errors. I also purchased this book. Glad I did because the first half of the book explains the Spring Framework - NOT just Spring MVC. Lots of light bulbs came on for me.

I like how the material is presented in a progressive yet concise fashion. Keep those pages turning as I absorb like a sponge! Not to be too gushing but I'm pretty excited that I now comprehend some of things I've been doing "by example" over the last few months. I have some refactoring to do!

I would not say that this book is good for someone learning their first programming language or for someone without a firm grasp of OO concepts. It does not teach you JAVA nor does it teach you about interfaces, inheritance, JDBC, connection pooling, etc. For me, as someone that understands all these things but did not have a foundation in the Spring Framework, this book is phenomenal.

Overly verbose and repetitive -- the first ~250 pages should be condensed into ~10, given that most readers are professional, skilled developers. Mostly unreadable due to lengthy, convoluted identifiers in the sample banking app. Poorly written and clearly self-published with no professional editing; examples: a notorious use of "in case of" instead of "in the case of", total overuse of "let's now look at" as a kind of linkage at the end of each of the hundreds of sections, erroneous punctuation as in "now, that we have covered...", etc. Very poor choice of typefaces: the sample code is in Comic Sans Serif, which looks as if written by hand; the text is in a sans serif font as well, which makes it much less readable than, say, Times Roman (the authors should take a cue from O'Reilly's books of how professional formatting of computer books looks like).

Hard Hitting and amazing story of a mans joinery though life. Makes ma vicar and scum look tame

This is a truly amazing story that sets aside an individual who has fought through poverty, violence, absolute survival and yet underneath this is the real story. A story of a genuine person who cares for his friends, his family. Is charitable and kind and deserving of a good break. It's rewarding to see that this book has finally been published to tell a hard hitting yet wonderful story. Fantastic read, surely a TV or film around the corner
