Great for medical school interviews

I bought this book as an overview for my medical school interviews.

And I think it does a great job of covering most topics in bioethics than can come up. The book also does it in a very neutral way. So if you get a question about bioethics, you can cover both sides of the argument and look like you know what you're talking about.

It's not a particularly exciting read, but great for general knowledge as well. They also have extra questions at the end of each chapter so you can practice talking about the topics.

I would recommend this to just about anyone who is interested in healthcare.

It contained too many personnel flow charts and not enough interesting information as previous editions had.
Richelson's sources have probably dried up and this is all he can provide to the tax paying public.

Great Introduction

As a Masters student in Media Psychology I found this book to be a great resource if you are looking for a basic introduction to the subject. It does not cover all of the topics, obviously, as it is a small book. It covers the main points that most people focus on/are interested in, like violence and advertising. Although, there are a lot of big terms included that you can use to study deeper. The book also has a great enthusiasm and humor to it that makes the reading a lot more fun. I would recommend The Shallows by Nicholas Carr, for a more philosophical/interesting read.

Reeves fans must read

Larry Jordan paints a complex portrait of an extremely talented and gifted, yet flawed man in Jim Reeves His Untold Story. In a book I've waited the better part of my life for, Jordan has given Reeves fans a complete picture showing Reeves as the Gentleman for which he earned the nickname, as the great musical talent he was, and as an all-too-human man hampered by self doubt, a sometimes hot temper, and an inability to remain faithful to one woman. Jordan's book shows us the life that Gentleman Jim lived including the many doubts and insecurities that plagued him despite the success and adoration that came his way. While some might think that exposing the reader to Reeves' human flaws would damage the place he has held in his many fans' hearts, I find that seeing him as the human being he was only enhances my appreciation of the incredible musical legacy he created. Too many times we only see the image created by marketing specialists and the media leading us to place these stars on a pedestal and when their human failings become evident it devastates the spotless image we have created in their mind. Jordan shows us that stardom and the hectic pace required of a country star - constant tours, traveling and performing that took its toll on Reeves and just like many other celebrities. How Reeves dealt with the loneliness, fatigue, and doubt, brought on by the demands of life as a country music star, while not always admirable, can be understood when one looks at the big picture. Reeves was like any one of us with many good traits and some not so admirable. Jordan leaves us with a portrait of a man with an incredible talent who did his best to treat his family, friends, and fans with kindness and respect, while not always succeeding.

The book also provides the reader with the most complete account to date of the events leading up to the plane crash in 1964 that silenced it and the many puzzling circumstances surrounding the tragedy. Jordan also details the heartbreaking account of Reeves' widow, Mary's, later years and the injustice done to Gentleman Jim's legacy by those trying to make a fast buck off of the rights to his recording royalties and memorabilia.

While Jim Reeves His Untold Story shows us the human side of the "greatest voice in county music", it also gives the reader the stories behind many of Reeves' recordings and places the songs into the context of what was happening at the time in Reeves' life. This factor alone mandates a second reading of the book in tandem with a re-exploration of these many beautiful songs, not only to listen again to that golden baritone, but to hear the lyrics in a new light with new meaning. I know that on my first reading, while my desire to read the book kept me reading, the level of detail and a sense of dread at reaching the end, which meant not only the end of the book, but Reeves' death checked my speed at completing the book. Jordan is to be commended on the time and the love he put into this biography. Anyone who loves Gentleman Jim and his music must read this book. He or she will come away with a greater appreciation of the man and his music.

Jim Reeves: His Untold Story

I have read many biographies on singers and own many and I found this the best one I have read! It was a book I could not put down. My library had it and I enjoyed it so much, I bought a copy for my own library at home.
I liked the way the author had the pictures in with the narrative. I felt like I was there living that time period. This author showed he had done a lot of research and I learned a lot about Jim Reeves. I enjoyed this book so much and have told my friends to read this book. A must read for fans of Jim Reeves.

The Best Book Ever Written About Jim Reeves

Simply put, I was blown away with this book. Having published more than 20+ books myself, including biographies of Melvin Belli, Thomas Merton, Jonathan Pollard, Mike Tyson and former Hitler Youth leader Ursula Martens as well as "The Poison Patriarch" about the JFK assassination, I am most impressed with not only the incredible amount of research done about Mr. Reeves' life but also how the author permits a reader like me to feel as if he is experiencing the famous singer's defining moments as they happen. Best of all, the author debunks many of the myths surrounding Mr. Reeves' life and perhaps as important, his unfortunate death. We therefore get a clear picture based on fact, not fiction, including how Mr. Reeves rose from being an unknown to the top of his profession as a singer who thrilled listeners around the world with his magical stories. The author is certainly correct that Mr. Reeves was "velvet voiced" and this important biography is a true keepsake for anyone who loved his music as I do.
