An Excellent Primer

Teeline is a surprisingly easy form of shorthand to learn, a task made even easier by Ann Dix's straightforward approach. Every lesson is carefully crafted to build on previous material and the author has created useful exercises throughout each chapter to practice both reading and writing Teeline. Moreover, each lesson contains enough material to be put into immediate practical use. I was confidently incorporating Teeline outlines into my longhand notes after only a couple of lessons. After a couple of weeks, I was able to write almost entirely in Teeline. Anyone wishing to increase his or her note taking skills would find the time spent learning Teeline well worth the effort and Ann Dix's book is an excellent place to start.

I WAS HOPING FOR SOMETHING DIFFERENT

when i read the description of teeline shorthand, I was under the impression that letters were going to be used instead of strokes. For example, the word HAVE would be written as hv, the word ABOUT would be written as abt, the word ENOUGH would be written engh, the word SHIPPING would be written as shpng. To my disappointment it's not done this way. Strokes (like the Gregg shorthand) are used to represent letters and phrases. the only different is the Teeline strokes have different meanings than Gregg shorthand. For example in Teeline the short dash stroke (---) represent the letter "T". in Gregg shorthand the short dash stroke represent the letter 'N" . in Teeline the upper slant stroke ( /) represent the letter "R". in Gregg Shorthand the upper slant stroke represent the letter "T". To me this is Gregg shorthand done in a different way. i decided to stick with Gregg shorthand because i do not want to learn how to use strokes in a different way.
