Better than nothing ...

LS-DYNA is a powerful finite element software package that has tremendous capability ... but is not intuitive to learn. After several frustrating weeks trying to decipher the user's manuals and working through the simple tutorials available on LS-DYNA's website, I purchased this book hoping for an enlightening reference book that would teach me the depths of LS-DYNA.
I was disappointed. At just over 100 pages, this book does not go into much detail about the program or its inner-workings. Through examples, the reader is exposed to the most commonly used capabilities of LS-DYNA. While the examples are helpful and the author makes all of the keyword files available on his website so the reader can compare and ensure the model has been built correctly, the lack of explanation about why certain selections are made or what certain parameters mean make them difficult to extrapolate from when building new, unique models.
I had not used the authors' other book (FROM LS-PREPOST TO LS-DYNA : AN INTRODUCTION: LS-Dyna for Beginners with 13 step by step solved examples) but it appears that this book is an updated version of this with corrections made. There are still some errors within this book. Some are merely annoying, others are crucial such as pointing you to the wrong menu page in LS-DYNA. I hope that they continue to improve - and expand - the book into something that will be much more helpful to a person trying to learn LS-DYNA.

Lots of good tips on how to do things in LS Dyna

Lots of good tips on how to do things in LS Dyna. I bought it for the sloshing tutorial but for some reason the model i created with the tutorial wouldn't run :( Since then i have learned what was wrong with the model and it has to do with some settings and design aspects that were missing - maybe the version has changed?
Also there are some mistakes in some parts of the book. The author is a university professor and his website has locations of mistakes in the book and all of the keyword files for each chapter :)
